Hotel front desk clerks

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to serve as general managers and directors of hospitality operations on a system-wide basis, including both travel arrangements and promotion and the provision of traveller facilities. These programs include courses in principles of operations in the travel and tourism, hotel and lodging facilities, food services, and recreation facilities industries; hospitality marketing strategies; hospitality planning; management and coordination of franchise and unit operations; business management; accounting and financial management; hospitality transportation and logistics; and hospitality industry policies and regulations.

Hospitality administration/management, general

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to manage travel-related enterprises and related convention and/or tour services. These programs include courses in travel agency management, tour arranging and planning, convention and event planning, travel industry operations and procedures, tourism marketing and promotion strategies, travel counselling, travel industry law, international and domestic operations, and travel and tourism policy.

Tourism and travel services management

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to manage operations and facilities that provide lodging services to the travelling public. These programs include courses in hospitality industry principles; supplies purchasing, storage and control; hotel facilities design and planning; hospitality industry law; personnel management and labour relations; financial management; marketing and sales promotion; convention and event management; front desk operations; and applications to specific types of hotel and motel operations.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to plan, manage, and market comprehensive vacation facilities and services and related products. These programs include courses in hospitality administration, hotel/motel management, restaurant and food services management, facilities planning, leisure studies, recreation administration, marketing, recreation equipment and grounds operations and maintenance, business finance, insurance and taxation, event management and guest services, personnel management, travel and logistics management, safety and health services, professional standards and ethics, and applications to specific vacation types and locations.

Conference and event planners plan, organize and coordinate conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, trade shows, festivals and other events. They are employed by tourism associations, trade and professional associations, convention and conference centres, governments and by conference and event planning companies, or they may be self-employed.

Travel counsellors advise clients on travel options and tour packages, make bookings and reservations, prepare tickets and receive payment. They are employed in travel agencies, transportation and tourism firms and hotel chains.

Hotel front desk clerks make room reservations, provide information and services to guests and receive payment for services. They are employed by hotels, motels and resorts.

Tourism Certificates

The Tourism Management Diploma focuses on the business of tourism to prepare for a leadership role. You’ll also develop a solid understanding of core business concepts that include marketing, finance, and leadership. The range of courses in this program are designed to give you a broad range of knowledge that is directly applicable to your everyday responsibilities in your chosen career. Additionally, through your courses and your hands-on practicum with clients, you’ll develop industry contacts, relevant job skills, experience and confidence to prepare you for a career in the tourism industry. 

Marketing Management (Tourism Management Option): Diploma

The Hospitality Management Diploma will equip you with the knowledge, management and practical skills needed to pursue supervisory and management careers in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry both locally and internationally. Because of the high demand for applied skills, this is a mandatory two term workplace education program. Workplace education provides you with opportunities to integrate your studies with a period of relevant work experience.

Hospitality Management Diploma

The Tourism Management Co-op Diploma focuses on core tourism management functions, build connections with industry and job skills on your four-month accredited, supervised co-operative work term. You'll study electives that meet your area of interest, ranging from hotel, adventure, events, eco-tourism and tourism planning. After completing the program, you can continue into the Bachelor degree in Tourism Management.

Tourism Management Co-op Diploma

The Tourism Management International Diploma allows you to join your instructors on field trips, gain knowledge from guest speakers and take part in a practicum placement as part of your concentrated tourism training. The Diploma in Tourism Management International program is specifically for international students who speak English as a Second Language.

Tourism Management International Diploma

The Adventure Tourism and Business Operations (ATBO) Diploma is ideal if you are passionate about adventure, sustainability, the environment and the outdoors and interested in working in the Adventure Tourism industry. Your ATBO instructors are highly skilled guides in avalanche safety, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater kayaking, backcountry skiing, backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. This program includes the latest industry-developed training material, and includes BC provincially-endorsed programs’ standards. 

Adventure Tourism Business Operations Diploma

The Hospitality Management Diploma consists of the practical, hands-on experience that employers seek, combined with academic and business courses to help you excel and grow in your career. This program is primarily face-to-face classroom instruction, combined with labs, field activities in hospitality settings, and co-op placement. Upon successful completion, you will be prepared for entry to the workplace or transfer to a degree program after completing two years of study at College of the Rockies. Graduates of this program will also be able to ladder into a Hospitality Management or Tourism Management degree program at other universities.

The Tourism Management Diploma prepares students for careers in resorts, hotels, and other tourism operations. The program includes courses in tourism, business management, and related specialty courses as well as experiential work placement and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. You can also use the knowledge and skills acquired in this program to transfer into the College of the Rockies Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Sustainable Business Practices or a bachelor’s degree in tourism management at other post-secondary institutions.

Tourism Management Diploma

The Hospitality Management Diploma provides you with marketing and management principles associated with lodging and restaurant operations. If you already have experience in the field, the program offers an opportunity to expand your marketing and management theory and practice in preparation for university transfer or management training programs. You'll also have the option to participate in the Business Internship Program. 

The Tourism and Hospitality Management Diploma - Adventure Guiding allows you to train on Vancouver Island to become an adventure guide and gain the skills to own or operate an adventure tourism business. Develop essential knowledge to work across cultures, with consideration towards environmental sustainability and risk management. Balance classroom theory with applied learning.

Adventure Guiding Option: Tourism and Hospitality Management Diploma (NIC)

The Tourism & Hospitality Management Diploma in Hospitality Management is fun, flexible and maximizes your options and opportunities. You will study hotel management and develop the skills needed to understand the complexities of managing hotel operations and identify ownership and management models.

Tourism Management Option: Tourism and Hospitality Management Diploma (NIC)

The Tourism Management Diploma provides you with an overview of the tourism industry along with management skills for this diverse and integrated industry. The program includes courses that address tourism and business management functions as well as providing opportunities to network and build connections within the sector. An integral part of the program is a co-op, as well as a faculty-supervised tourism sector study course, which will allow you to engage in experiential learning within the tourism community. Core themes include tourism and hospitality operations, sustainability, service management, marketing, and industry diversity. Upon graduation, you will be prepared for supervisory or front-line management positions in tourism and hospitality.

The Resort and Hotel Management Diploma is designed to prepare graduates for careers in tourism focusing primarily on resorts, hotels and restaurants but including all areas of hospitality. Through classroom instruction, practical lab training and work experience, our program teaches you solid business practices, human resources, leadership and marketing skills that will help to launch your career. You'll gain confidence to coordinate everything from exclusive parties and sporting events to signature black-tie galas for thousands. Communications and human relations are emphasized.

Resort and Hotel Management Diploma

The Ski Resort Operations and Management Diploma gives you a unique blend of management skills and industry knowledge to prepare you for lasting leadership roles. The aim of this program is to accelerate the movement of graduates into supervisory and management level positions. Close contact with industry operations is provided through field trip visits that introduce you to industry supervisory and management personnel. Field trips provide you with first-hand exposure to all aspects of resort indoor and outdoor operations. This program includes a co-operative education work term at a ski resort.

Ski Resort Operations and Management Diploma

The Resort and Hotel Management Diploma blends theory and hands-on learning to give you the technical and managerial skills you need to work at a variety of positions in the hotel/resort industry in Canada and abroad. In this program you’ll also learn key business principles necessary to successfully manage hotels and resorts, flawlessly execute food and beverage operations, and sharpen your understanding of excellence in service culture overall. Skills and knowledge gained in this program are easily transferable to other business sectors.

The Tourism Management Diploma explore your options that gives you a good sampling of the specialties you can take in Tourism Management. You will gain the necessary skills to provide quality tourist experiences, develop and manage tourism businesses with entrepreneurial spirit, and contribute to community development in a manner that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Students enrolled in Bachelor of Tourism Management who wish to exit the program upon completion of Year 2 can apply for this diploma.

The Hospitality Management diploma teaches professional business management practices for careers in hotels, cruise ships, convention centres, and dining establishments. You will learn effective communication and leadership skills for the hospitality sector; financial decision-making in the context of a hospitality enterprise; ethical practices and legal frameworks within the hospitality industry; hands-on food and beverage service; front-of-house and back-of-house hotel and restaurant operations, and more.

The Hospitality Management Diploma allows you to acquire hospitality knowledge through a blend of classroom learning, and experiential activities in an on-campus dining room, in teaching kitchens and participation in special events. You'll be required to complete two paid co-operative work placements where they apply their learning at resorts throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of supervisory and management positions in the tourism industry. 

The focus of the Tourism Studies Diploma is on the provision of leisure experiences for domestic and international visitors. The program assesses the impact of tourism on individuals, communities, and the environment in order to develop best practices for sustainable tourism development. The features of the program include the provision of applied skills and knowledge, direct leadership experience, a co-operative education model (paid employment), and small class sizes.
