Computer network and web technicians

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to oversee and regulate the computer system and performance requirements of an entire organization or network of satellite users. These programs include courses in performance balancing; redundancy; local area (LAN) and wide area (WAN) network management; system migration and upgrading; outage control; problem diagnosis and troubleshooting; and system maintenance budgeting and management.

System, networking and LAN/WAN management/manager

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to develop and maintain web servers and the hosted web pages at one or a group of web sites, and to function as designated webmasters. These programs include courses in computer systems and networks; server installation and maintenance; web page design and editing; information resources management; web policy and procedures; Internet applications of information systems security; user interfacing and usability research; and relevant management and communications skills.

Computer network technicians establish, operate, maintain and coordinate the use of local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs), mainframe networks, hardware, software and related computer equipment. Web technicians set up and maintain internet, extranet and intranet web sites and web server hardware and software, and monitor and optimize network connectivity and performance. They are employed in information technology units throughout the public and private sectors. Computer network technicians who are supervisors are included in this group.

The Technology Support Professional (TSP) program is for you if you have no previous training in computing or need to upgrade your IT skills, TSP can help you succeed in the technology sector after completion of this program. The program will enable you to think critically, troubleshoot and solve problems.

The Internet and Web Technology Certificate emphasizes web development and computing and provides a solid foundation for the technical side of e-business. There is no computing knowledge required to be accepted to this program. This program will help you develop skills in standard procedural and object-oriented computing, shell scripting, and networking. The program focuses on modern web programming methodologies, tools, and frameworks. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for employment as entry/junior-level QA or Help Desk/IT Support Specialist.
