Senior managers in construction, transportation, production and utilities plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate, through middle managers, the overall operations of goods production, utility, transportation and construction companies. Engineering managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of an engineering department, service or firm. They are employed by a wide range of private sector and government establishments and by consulting engineering and scientific research companies.

Mechanical engineers research, design and develop machinery and systems for heating, ventilating and air conditioning, power generation, transportation, processing and manufacturing. They also perform duties related to the evaluation, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. They are employed by consulting firms, by power-generating utilities and in a wide range of manufacturing, processing and transportation industries, or they may be self-employed.

Aerospace engineers research, design and develop aerospace vehicles, aerospace systems and their components, and perform duties related to their testing, evaluation, installation, operation and maintenance. They are employed by aircraft and spacecraft manufacturers, air transport carriers, and in government and educational and research institutions.

Eligibility is achieved through completion of an accredited diploma program and 24 months of progressive work experience, 12 of which must be at the technologist profile or higher in a Canadian work environment.

University Transfer Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Degree is for those who are keen in gaining knowledge with both the theoretical and the hands-on practical skills to become a Mechanical Engineer. This program focuses on engineering fundamentals that you can apply in your capstone projects. This program shares a common first year with the Mechanical Engineering Technology programs. All applicants must complete the first year of the program before continuing to either the Bachelor of Engineering degree program or to one of the technology diploma options.

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree: Engineering Science Second Degree is for students who have already completed a previous degree in mathematics, physics, computing science, or a related discipline. Upon gaining admission to SFU as a non-degree student, you can apply directly to the School of Engineering Science. Areas you'll study can include microelectronics, computer engineering, robotics, biomedical engineering, multimedia, systems or telecommunications. Completion of the program can lead you to a career in the engineering field.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science focuses on solving problems with advanced solutions, from electronics to robotics to medical devices. You will bring your technical skills from the classroom to your mandatory co-op work experience, gaining industry experience. By third year, you will specialize in one of five main options: biomedical engineering, computering engineering, electronics engineering, engineering physics, or systems engineering. Upon graduation, you'll have gained entrepreneurial skills, an orientation to new technologies, and will be prepared to enter the engineering field.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechatronics tackles real-world engineering problems, combining the three fields of mechanical, electrical and software engineering. Mechatronic Systems Engineering: Bachelor of Applied Science - Major or Honours

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Engineering foundation year prepares you with a strong knowledge base from which to build a solid and rewarding academic and professional career. Along with other first-year engineering students, you’ll take courses in math, chemistry, physics and communication to gain the fundamental knowledge you need to succeed as an engineer. You'll take two engineering classes where you’ll learn how to use your problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to solve real-world problems and challenges. The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering provides a broad base of theory courses and practical design projects.
