To practice as a civil engineering technologist or technician in BC, you may choose to register with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia. Eligibility is achieved through completion of an accredited diploma program and 24 months of progressive work experience, 12 of which must be at the technologist profile or higher in a Canadian work environment.

Civil engineering technologists and technicians

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals for admission or transfer to a baccalaureate-level program in any of the fields of engineering.

Pre-engineering

This instructional program class comprises any program that generally prepares individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of structural, load-bearing, material moving, transportation, water resource, and material control systems; and environmental safety measures.

Civil engineering, general

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of civil engineers engaged in designing and executing public works projects such as highways, dams, bridges, tunnels and other facilities. These programs include courses in site analysis, structural testing procedures, field and laboratory testing procedures, plan and specification preparation, test equipment operation and maintenance, and report preparation.

Civil engineering technology/technician

To work in an accounting-related profession in BC, you may choose to earn the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Eligibility for this designation is achieved through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a Canadian or international university and required prerequisite courses. 

Employment as a senior manager in construction, transportation, production, and utilities may additionally require several years of related work experience.
